Barranquilla is one of the main ports in Colombia, and one of the most popular retail, industrial and cultural centers in the north sector of the country. Known for its Carnaval de Barranquilla, a 4-day celebration, the city is rich in culture, music and native celebrations.
Also called La Arenosa (the sandy one) and Curramba la Bella (Curramba the beautiful), Barranquilla, since its foundation in 1629, has received several waves of immigrants which have enriched its traditions and given the city its metropolitan and deeply joyful character. Today it is home to nearly 1.2 million inhabitants who enjoy the city’s diverse gastronomy and dynamic nightlife.
The city is also an active retail and industrial center, with a wide variety of warehouse and retail supply which makes it very competitive amongst neighboring cities. Its geographical position makes it a hot spot for investors all over the world and along with Colombia´s free trade agreements signed with countries such as the U.S. the city has increased exponentially in growth, attractiveness and opportunities for trade.
Another interesting fact is the city’s proximity to two of the most touristic cities in the country: Cartagena and Santa Marta. Which to the barranquilleros, are two of the most common destinations for leisure and entertainment.
BUENAVISTA SHOPPING MALL
Located in one of the most exclusive districts in the city, the Buenavista mall is the largest and most iconic shopping mall in the city. It is one of the hubs of entertainment, shopping and social life within the city and the place where some of the most exclusive brands, both local and international, have set up shop. The success of this shopping mall has made it open similar schemes in nearby cities such as Santa Marta and Monteria. Similar malls have opened in Santa Marta and Monteria based on the Buenavista's footprint.
