Bangkok is a paradise city for the food and beverage sector, where there is 24/7 food service everywhere and especially for the local market.
A continually popular trend of Korean and Japanese food is driving the expansion of F&B spaces in most of the shopping malls. Most of the new entries are Japanese restaurants, especially in sushi categories. Many sushi bars such as Ginza sushi Ichi, Mugendai, Karatama Robatayaki, etc. have been increasing in numbers with high competition in the market recently. Unlike other types of restaurant, they do not need to be in shopping mall, they can be a stand alone restaurant with good Public Relation and attractive promotion, with their seats packed. Dessert and Ice Cream shops are also expanding. Unlike Japanese restaurants, brands like Harrods Tea Room, TWG, Pierre Herme etc. need to be located in prime shopping malls to attract shoppers to visit and try their treats. Even though new restaurants and fancy shops are packed, surviving in a highly competitive market requires flexibility and understanding customers are the most important asset for the operator.
